Regarding OR, that was a quote I first heard ~5 years ago from one of IBM's Kaggle grandmasters. It struck me at the time -- then was reinforced by people in leadership at large consultancies, and also by our customer engagements.

Again, this isn't a perspective found as much in businesses such as online marketing, advertising, social networks ...

This perspective is encountered in regulated environments for capital-intensive businesses, such as manufacturing, energy, transportation, etc., where there are trade-offs and OR approaches are supporting key decisions.
